Achievers

Hi everyone,

This is my single page layout of my two eldest grandkids and their achievements, using Ivytree Studio elements (papers). Most of the time when doing scrapbooking layouts I have to look for embellishments to add to a page. This time, it was so easy just to use the 'mini inspirations' on the Ivytree Studio papers from the Seize The Day Collection.

An extra bonus is that one of the papers has mini Afrikaans cards on it, and as my grandchildren speak this language at home, it was perfect for this layout to showcase their scholastic achievements. I mixed the mini inspiration cards with the same size cards cut out of the patterned papers, added a few tags and a small apple, and the layout is done! Oh, I also raised all the mini cards on mirror tape.

You Light Up My Life

Hi everyone,

How many of you have used scrapbooking papers with SVG cutting files and either a cutting machine, or by hand?

I have been wanting to cut out and make up this little lamp for ages, but somehow either just plain forget, or am never happy with the papers I have on hand to make it with. Well, now that I am on the Design Team for Ivytree Studio, I have access to some absolutely beautiful papers. These papers are manufactured in my own country South Africa, which makes them even more special to me. Fabulous quality and designs, cut easily on my Cricut machine, and fold easily as well.

Enough chatter! This is a 3D project as a member of the Ivytree Studio DT, and I decided to go ahead and make up the little lamp.  I have included a little tutorial below so you can see how I did it.

Materials

Cutting file for the lamp : SVG Cuts - one of the files in their “Maison de Madeline” set.

Ivytree Studio Papers:

Lampshade: Hadeda Gardenia from the “Hadeda GardenCollection”

Lamp Base: Shabby Stoep – Moss from the “Friendship begins in the Heart” collection

Various flowers and leaves for the base: Flower Accents from the “Friendship begins in the Heart” collection.

1 sheet of Vellum

Flower punches

Fleur de Lis die

Flat-backed pearls

Flat-backed gems

Glitter glue
Thin cord

How to assemble the lamp
Cut all the pieces from the SVG cutting file. Fold on the score lines.

Glue the vellum panels to the inside of 3 of the shade pieces with the fleur-de-lis cutout shape, then glue the edges of the shade together. Leave the rounded cutout side open as this is the opening for inserting the candle.  Glue the base of the lamp shade to the shade.

Glue the edges of the lamp base to one another to form the shape of the base. Glue the baseplate to the bottom of the base.

Decorate the shade and base plate as desired. I used these punches to create flowers, and cut out some leaves from the Flower Accents paper.

Glue the circular shape of the base of the shade, to the top of the lamp base. Decorate with flat-backed pearls, creating a fringe at the bottom of the shade. This is a view of the back of the lamp, with a small battery operated candle inserted.

My Namib desert project life pages

This is the story of a one-day outing into the Namib desert, as part of my MSC Cruise to Namibia in May 2016. 

This is my very FIRST "Project Life" layout, and while I really did not enjoy making up this 2-page project, I have to say that if it was not for the fabulous Ivytree Studio pocket cards from their Hadeda Collection, I would probably have given up!!! Just too much planning and synchronisation, and it felt like I had used a few meters of double-sided tape - my table looked an absolute mess! I suppose it IS a good method of journalling, but only if you have a lot of relevant, matching sayings you can add. Fortunately the creators of this paper range thought of that!

All the papers and pocket cards come from the fabulous Ivytree Studio Hadeda Garden Collection. 

And now for some close ups.

The Tour Guide took us to a specific spot, searched the bushes, and found this little chap. Seems he was already well trained as he climbed on the hand and fed on worms provided to him! Great for photography, but I dislike the taming of wild creatures for the sake of sensationalism or marketing.

God makes the most amazing creatures, and this little Palmetogecko with its transparent body and delicate colouring, was a highlight of the trip for me. 

I cut out an additional flower and raised it with mirror tape.

This is little old me - always with camera ready! My friend actually took a photo of me lying in the sand trying to photograph a toktokkie! Not too successfully though as those things move FAST - and I don't!

One of the pocket cards has this space to do a little journalling. I cut out two images and stuck them on top for decoration.

Mmm - I was rather annoyed with the tour guide for digging up and chasing this poor spider, but I think she got the upper hand! He was extremely cautious after this. 

The famous yet totally stressed out "White Dancing Lady". From the angle of the photograph you can see I was low down on the ground - on my knees in fact with the camera about 1 meter from her. The guide and everyone else was screaming at me to be careful and get away. Why? I was not hurting her and she knew it. After the photo she ran between my knees and out the back. Guide never spoke to me for the rest of the day!

Literary licence here - I changed the 'our' to 'my' and just love it! This is an image cut out and stuck onto a piece of the paper cut into a pocket card.
